NJME conducts site visits to manufacturers with teams comprised of our full-time engineers, graduate, and undergraduate students. Any manufacturing facility in New Jersey big or small can benefit from these free assessments.
Companies are always looking to save money and they can do so by means of the recommendations we provide that improve energy efficiency and pollution prevention. Along with saving money, companies will also be saving the environment, making New Jersey a better place to live.

We ask that you please help us to help you. You can do so by filling out a questionnaire that we provide via email, fax, or it can be downloaded from our site. We ask that you fill it out as best you can so that ultimately we can better prepare for the assessment in identifying possible recommendations and discuss areas of your concern.

In addition, we ask that you provide us with the most recent 12 months of utility bills; this will assist us in calculating costs and payback periods much more accurately. Documents such as plant layouts, process descriptions, and costs associated with raw materials and waste disposal are also very helpful but not as crucial.
Our team normally consists of experienced engineers and well trained undergrad or graduate students. Before each assessment the team is briefed on plant safety issues. However, if there are any areas that may pose an additional safety risk, please let us know.
In most cases we will perform the assessment within one business day. The typical assessment itinerary is as follows (subject to change):
9:00 - 9:30 AM NJME Team & Plant staff convene
9:30 - 10:30 AM Initial Meeting with plant personnel (maintenance, plant engineer etc)
where we go over plant operations and energy systems in the plant.
10:30 - 12:00 PM Plant tour during which we will observe plant operations
12:00 - 1:30 PM NJME Team Meeting
1:30 - 3:30 PM Data Gathering and Information Collection
3:30 - 4:30 PM Wrap-up meeting with Plant Staff and NJME Team
A confidential report will be sent to you within 60 days of the visit to the facility. The report will have detailed descriptions of our recommendations which include calculations that can be use later in case your rates or costs change.
Sometimes, along with are recommendations there are additional recommendations. These are ideas we had, but the financial feasibility wasn’t there or we did not have enough resources to give an accurate calculation. Sometimes we may include resources which are just information we feel you should be aware of.
Lastly we include an analysis of the utility bills that you provide us with. Along with calculations, the recommendations come with dollar savings, implementation cost, payback periods, and vendor information. Six to eight months after receiving the report we will contact you to follow up on recommendations you may have implemented.
